A DC fan can be connected directly to a solar panel. An AC fan requires an inverter to convert the electricity. ... If you have an AC fan, better install a complete solar power system -solar panels, battery, inverter and charge controller – to avoid problems.

How many solar panels does it take to run a fan?

Total = 100–120 watt. Since a solar panel produces DC and the typical loads are in AC you will need to add conversion and associated losses which can be about 10–20%. So you will be safe to use a 150Watt module.
